Training and education

These are the places and people that are leading the way in developing the next generation of design thinkers. Institutions around the world are taking the bold step of making sure MBAs know how to manage a creative team as well as they can manage a P&L. Tell us of other institutions.

180°academy, Denmark

Traditionally innovation has been technology driven. At 180°academy we believe in people-driven innovation, enabling our students to understand innovation from the point of view of everyday people.
Accepting this fact, 180°academy turns the traditional approach to innovation around. We want to revolutionize traditional education by merging together students with different competences and thinking styles in a praxis-oriented learning environment.

Institute of Design at Stanford – d.school, USA

Stanford’s Institute of Design, the d.school, prepares future innovators to be breakthrough thinkers and doers, uses design thinking to inspire multidisciplinary teams, fosters radical collaboration between students, faculty and industry, and tackles big projects using prototyping to discover new solutions.

Institute of Design, USA

The Master of Design Methods (MDM) is a nine month (or 2-3 year part-time) executive master’s degree for exceptional design, management, engineering and other professionals who wish to acquire robust design methods and frameworks and to apply design thinking to the development of products, communications, services, and systems.

Rotman School of Management, Canada

At the Rotman School, we see great value in the designer's approach to solving problems -- the integrative way of thinking and problem-solving that can be applied to all components of business. Dean Roger Martin has said that "we are on the cusp of a design revolution in business," and as a result, "today's business people don't need to understand designers better, they need to become designers."

De Montefort University, UK

The Design Innovation course provides a framework for developing design skills in a professional context. The design and analytical skills taught on the course are vital in an entrepreneurial, knowledge-based economy. Students develop one central project during the course, working with tutors in specialist pathway groups.
